Bishop, California,
is a rock climber's paradise. This is one of the few places on earth
where world class bouldering combines with magnificent scenery,
convenient amenities, and near-perfect weather.
More than 2000
problems on two principal rock types provide a range of options from
the pocketed Bishop tuff of the Volcanic Tableland to the generally
crimpier though occasionally frictiony quartz monzonite in the
Buttermilk Country.
Climbers here are simply spoiled for choice,
not just by the quantity and variety of climbing, but by the radically
different environments. The shallow canyons of the Happy and Sad
Boulders with their fascinating jumbles of blocks and their long,
winding walls and alcoves often have a gym-like feel, totally different
to the higher-altitude, more exposed, and sometimes intimidating giant
eggs of the spectacular Buttermilks.
But, no matter where
you choose to climb, if you come to Bishop you are guaranteed to be
inspired and energized by the expansive scenery. You will also enjoy the
freedom to explore this wonderland of rocks in search of that perfect
climbing experience, whether it be a social session with a crowd,
basking in the sun at the 'Happies,' or a solitary trip to work a project
in the quiet backwater of the Bardini Boulders.
I will add some "slideshows" below showcasing some of the areas and/or problems ... Enjoy!
